If you’ve noticed that the weather is a little bit abnormal lately and mentioned it to a friend, chances are that they blamed it on the cause and effect of global warming. Since the release of such films as ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ and ‘An Inconvenient Truth.’

Rather than be afraid of this thing called Global Warming, it is important for us to step up and take notice of the situation, and do what we can to stop it before it becomes too late. Read on for a few facts, and a bit more detail about the causes and effects of global warming.

What IS Global Warming?
Global Warming is the term that is used to refer to the increase in the average temperature on the globe. Some people say that global warming is a phenomenon, a conspiracy theory designed to get people away from their dependence on fossil fuels as a whole.

The Causes of Global Warming
There are a variety of speculations about the causes of the global warming epidemic on Earth, but the main causes are due to human contributions. The release of excess carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere due to pollution caused by humans is one of the main causes of global warming. Our prized vehicles, the cars that we drive back and forth to work, play, and school every day--the pollution and emissions caused by them is also a contributory factor to the global warming scare across the world.

Human beings are not the only ones to blame, however. There are also natural elements that have contributed to the global warming phenomenon, and that is one of the main reasons why it is not taken as seriously as it should be. People question the validity of human causes because natural causes are so prevalent, and that is a discussion all it’s own. For this reason, there is a great deal of debate about the role that world governments should take in the global warming crisis, if any, since there are natural causes for it as well.

The movements and strength of the sun, volcanic activity and even the orbit of the earth all have contributed towards the increasing temperature on the planet. But study after study have always demonstrated greenhouse gases to be the main factor of this phenomenon.

Although not the only cause for this phenomenon, human activity is the main contributory element to global warming and fortunately these can be controlled whereas natural causes cannot. The Earth will go through its natural course of things, with or without human intervention but it is human activity that is speeding up the process of global warming.

The Effects of Global Warming
Sadly, the effects of global warming is where most people sit up and take notice, if they take notice at all. The effects of global warming, touch just about everyone on the planet in some form or another, and as the problem gets bigger the effects of global warming become more astronomical.

The overall temperature of the earth has a direct effect on the presence of glaciers and ice shelves; as they become smaller the sea level rises; phenomenon such as this have a direct effect on areas where ice is prevalent, like Antarctica and even Alaska.

In addition, the global warming phenomenon has been known to directly contribute to the ever-increasing frequency and intensity of hurricanes (think: Hurricane Katrina), not to mention the fact that the agricultural industry is directly impacted by the ever-increasing temperatures of the earth’s surface and the atmosphere. Also, human diseases have also become more frequent, like Malaria for example.

Many people say that global warming is a hoax, or a conspiracy theory. While we can't accept all of the blame for climate change, we are indeed the only ones who can fix the problem.
