When it comes to the health and well-being of our planet, the title terms of this piece should rank highly in order of importance for all people. If we choose not to reduce, reuse, and recycle, we are going to end up with a planet that will no longer be able to sustain us.
The plain simple truth is if we don’t take care of Earth’s ecology, Earth will no longer take care of us. There are several very simple things that all people can do to make sure that we are caring for the planet that sustains our lives.
Reducing the amounts of chemicals, plastics, and other items that are harmful to our environment will work wonders. If we take all of the bags that we are given at the grocery store and fill them to the top, we will use fewer bags.
If we reduce the amount of time that we spend in the car by consider other modes of transportation, such as walking or bike riding, less chemicals will pollute the air that we breathe and less oil and gas will be necessary. This could solve many political issues as well as environmental ones. Making these small reductions can make a world of difference.
Reusing items will allow for fewer of these items to be manufactured, which is better for the environment as not as many caustic chemicals will be released into the air. The items that are considered “use once and throw away” should be used and reused. I have items for my child that are packaged as “take and toss” items. They are made of hard plastic, why would I want to throw those away and buy more? That would be extremely wasteful.
It’s unfortunate that our society has become as wasteful as it has, but this is the time to turn it around. Reusing these types of items instead of tossing them will not only provide less chemicals released into the air, but will also save you money.
Recycling materials that are used in your home on a regular basis will allow for these items to be reused in a new form. Again, this will cut down on the number of things that will have to be manufactured. In turn, this will cut down on the pollution in the air and on the taking of our natural resources that are suffering so greatly right now.
As always, recycling paper will allow for fewer trees to be cut down. Trees produce oxygen which is what we breathe. If we use up too many of these resources and don’t replace them, we will no longer be able to exist as a society.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle should be a part of every vocabulary. It should be something of importance in every household. Becoming more conscious of this and practicing it regularly will help us continue to live the lives we’ve become accustomed to.
